Chapter 8
I was sitting there in my room for about ten minutes. It felt like I had been sitting there for hours. Everything seemed to be foggy in my head. I felt like the world was falling apart and caving in on top of me. I heard a gentle knock on my door and ignored it. I just sat there rocking back and forth hugging my bear. It was as if I was in some sort of trance.
The door opened slowly. Jack came into the room looking for me. I should have known he would miss me and come looking. As soon as he saw me he rushed over and scooped me up into his arms as if I was a little child. He held me tight and the tears started to flow freely down my face. I wanted him to let me go, but at the same time I wanted him to just hold me. Jack sat there holding me, not saying a word as I cried. Every time something happens to dad it becomes a reminder that we could lose him any day. Dad has not even said if he accepted the fairy queens offer yet. I guess I will have to talk to mom and see if she knows what dad decided. At the moment I just wanted to cry. It was something that I have not done since we found out that dad was dying.
I felt like my whole world has been turned upside down. Nothing really made any sense now except for the fairies, Jack and horseback riding. With everything that was going on I had forgotten just for a moment that the competition was this weekend. I didn’t even know if dad would be well enough to even attend.
“Hey Jack do you think that dad will be well enough to attend the horse riding competition this weekend?”
“I do not know Athena, but I am going to see what I can do to make sure that he is there for it. Your dad has been looking forward to being there and watching you in the competition. I know that he will insist on being there no matter what I or Dr. Randall say. He is really sick and I know that your dad is going to try to spend every minute he has left with you, Maldor and your mother.”
“Yea dad can be stubborn at times. Your right about dad though. He has never let any of us down. When he says that he is going to do something, he does it.”
“Athena once he is at the hospital he can be assessed properly, and then we will know how much his condition has changed. So how about we dry these tears from your face and go check on your dad?”
“I think I would like that. Jack thanks for being here for me. I know that I can be difficult at times and I can be stubborn, just like my dad. This is me, this is who I am.
